3MB-Suicidal Rate on the increase!

As I watched the video of the individual who parked a Ford Explorer on 3rd Mainland Bridge (3MB) and jumped into the Lagoon yesterday. I remembered what my Dad kept warning me about, envy no one.

Until there is acknowledgement of depression in our society, there will continue to be suicides and other mental health issues.  There is not even a word for it in the culture yet it is real.  Some people think they are better off dead and see no way out of debt, pain, abuse etc.  Money does not equate happiness.

Anthony Bourdain was someone I spent a year watching on TV, while I was bed ridden for 6 months of the same year. His death has been a major blow.

Every person is facing something serious, I picked a young man from the mall yesterday, he kept insisting that I don't have issues like that now, I own 3 cars, I am married and live in a good house with loads of facilities. I told him what I kept begging God for as salary in a year is what I usually earn in 2 weeks now and it is not easy paying bills out here, salaries, rentals which are paid annually, today duplexes are being converted to mini flats and flats are being shared by 3 families. Times are hard, depression is real and all we seem to be able to say is that things were better 4 years ago.

I once asked one of my mentors who is a billionaire real estate developer, about what he does with floods of calls seeking for sincere assistance, he said do what you can and leave the rest to God.

I am someone who gets depressed from being back-stabbed and seeing people suffer. Hence my surroundings sees a lot of poverty thanks to the way the government has handled situations for decades on end.

This year alone I have buried 5 young hardworking friends who changed the way things work in Nigeria in Real Estate, Aviation and Oil and Gas, they fought for life and got exhausted.
