On Wednesday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) took another important step in the preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia by unveiling the new jerseys to be worn by the team at the Mundial.

In a simple yet eye-catching ceremony held in London, the newly-designed and impressive specimen of the jerseys were revealed to the excited global following of the Super Eagles.

Thus, Nigeria News sought to get you 5 interesting facts about the jerseys for your reading pleasure. Read on!

1. Which Company designed the new Super Eagles Jersey?

The Jerseys were designed by the official kit Sponsor of the Super Eagles, Sportswear Manufacturing giant, Nike.

This is a return for the Super Eagles after the jerseys for the two previous World Cups (South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014) were designed by Adidas.

Also, New York City-based graphic designer, Matthew Wolff led the Nike team that designed the Jerseys.

2. What do the new Super Eagles Jerseys design look like?

First off, this is where it gets interesting. The 2018 World Cup Jerseys for the Super Eagles have a striking resemblance to the one worn by the impressive 1994 Super Eagles team making Nigeria’s debut at the Football Mundial.

Considering that ’94 team has been adjudged as the most successful Super Eagles team both on the African stage and globally and adding that Nigerians are hugely superstitious, a lot of people noticed it quickly and hoped that the new jerseys bring us even better luck that the Round of 16finish reached at USA ’94.

Now to the 2018 striking ‘throwback’ jerseys. there are as usual the home kit and the away kit.

The home kit is all-green, albeit darker than past jerseys. This is in keeping with the team’s Green-theme due to Nigeria’s national colours.

However, the away kit is where all the spice was added! It has a predominantly light green background with bold white V-shaped patterns drawn on it. The sleeves have white underneath black patterns and the shorts are plain white. Sumptuous!

Certainly! Nike also designed various striking fan wears for the enthusiastic Super Eagles fans. This comes in various forms of tops, headwears, shorts, jackets et cetera. All with unique Nigerian designs and feels.

4. Are we not breaking records already?

Going by the massive positive reviews and comments the new Super Eagles’ jerseys have received, it is a good time to be a fan of the Super Eagles.

Moreso, just hours after the unveiling of the Jerseys, British newspaper, Daily Mirrorranked it as the best kit so far out of the 19 team kits already revealed for the Tournament in Russia.

Way to go!

Bonus Fact: The first time the Super Eagles will file out in these magnificent jerseys will be when they play Poland in a Pre-World Cup friendly on March 23rd. We can’t wait already!

5. What are they saying?

The acceptance has been massive! Officials, players, pundits, fans, sports enthusiasts around the world; they’ve all gone agog with joy.
